WhatsApp Order Notifications Without Using Your Store Number

MyD Notifications sends order notifications from its own number, through Meta’s official API, not from your store’s WhatsApp. That means your store needs no Meta account, no number registration, no approved templates and no card on file to pay for messages, and your support number stays on your phone exactly as it is. If a customer replies to a notification, they get an automatic reply saying the number only sends notifications and showing your store’s WhatsApp.

What it takes to use your own store number

Sending automatic notifications from the store’s own number requires the official API. Connecting by scanning a QR code is a different thing, and WhatsApp says linking an account to an unofficial app or website may get it banned. Per Meta’s documentation, the official route asks for:

  • A Meta setup: a business portfolio, a developer account, an app with the WhatsApp use case and a WhatsApp Business account.
  • A number registered on the API. A number registered on the API cannot be used in the WhatsApp app at the same time. If it is already on the app, you either delete the app account (and lose the history) or use coexistence, covered below. (Meta for Developers)
  • A display name, which only shows at the top of the chat once approved.
  • Approved templates for every status message. Review can take up to 24 hours.
  • A sending limit. A new business starts out able to reach 250 unique customers per 24 hours outside the customer service window. Getting to 2,000 takes business verification or a track record of quality sends. (messaging limits)
  • Paying Meta directly, per delivered message. Order notifications are utility templates, priced by the recipient’s country. (Meta pricing)

None of it is impossible. It is just infrastructure you now own, on top of the store you already run.

What about coexistence?

Since February 2025, Meta lets a number stay on the WhatsApp Business app and the API at the same time, called coexistence. It only happens through an official Meta partner and has limits: group chats do not sync, disappearing and view-once messages are turned off, and linked devices get unlinked. (Meta for Developers)

How it works with the MyD Notifications number

The number, the Meta account, the templates and the message costs stay with MyD Notifications. On your side:

  1. Subscribe to a plan and copy the key from your dashboard.
  2. Paste the key into the plugin (Order on Mobile for WooCommerce or MyD Delivery).
  3. Pick which order statuses send a message.

When the status changes, the message goes out through the official API with your store’s name and your contact inside it. What you pay is the plan, by number of messages. There is no separate Meta bill.

What happens when a customer replies

The customer sees the notification and replies right there. Nobody is on the other end of that number, so:

  • They instantly get an automatic reply saying the number only sends order notifications and showing your store’s WhatsApp. One tap and they are chatting with you.
  • The automatic reply goes out at most once an hour to the same number. If the customer sends five messages in a row, they do not get five identical replies.
  • Your store’s contact is already in the notification itself, so the customer can tap it directly without replying.

Your conversation with the customer stays on the store’s WhatsApp, with the history you already have.

When your own number on the API makes sense

A shared number is not for every case. Setting up the official API with your store number is worth it if:

  • you want the notification and the conversation in the same chat, with your brand as the sender;
  • you will send marketing or campaigns, not just order status;
  • you already have, or want, a support team and tooling on top of the API.

If what you need is for customers to know their order is on its way and stop asking “where is my order?”, the MyD Notifications number handles it without any of those steps.
